Hello and welcome to the little play therapy company website! It’s nice to see you!
Play Therapy uses a non-directive integrative holistic approach which is child led. Often for children using words to talk about how they are feeling can be very difficult. Play is a child's natural form of self expression therefore using play to express feelings and experiences can be a much easier form of self expression and communication.
In play therapy we use a 'therapeutic toolkit' which includes:
Sand Tray
Therapeutic story telling
Music
Art making
Clay
Creative visualisation and Mindfulness
Drama and Roleplay
Mask work
Puppets
Small world play
Therapeutic games
Individual play therapy session will take place within the child's school setting.
Play Therapy is usually suited to children aged 4-12 years of age ( sometimes older for children with SEN or additional needs)
Play therapy can be short term a minimum (12 sessions) or long term - This is dependant on the referral requirements.
Play therapy sessions take place once a week at the same time, on the same day and in the same place to ensure a consistent approach.
Play therapy session are 45-50mins long.
During the Introduction session boundaries are discussed and agreed with the child this is called 'therapeutic contracting' boundaries help to keep the therapy sessions safe and provide consistency.
The therapist will liaise with the child's school usually with the schools SENCO to set up the play therapy sessions as well as completing a formal parent/carer interview where they will gather all relevant information to help support the referral.
Play therapy is confidential to the child unless a safeguarding concern is raised.
Play therapy can help with a variety of needs such as:
